Rv Inspections: Why they're a good idea

There are several reasons why getting an independent RV inspection is a good idea.

You are spending a lot of your hard earned money. You should do whatever you are able to do in order to protect that purchase or investment. You do the same thing when you buy a house. When you purchase a house you have a home inspection done so that you have an idea of the condition of the house before you make the purchase. Some lenders require a home inspection prior to purchase. This is done by the banks to protect you and them. With the inspection you get a pretty clear cut picture of what kind of condition the rv is in. This is one reason why you should do a pre-purchase inspection on a new or used RV or travel trailer. An inspection is just as important on a new rv as it is a used rv.

We inspectors are here to help. They're not here to find problems or cause problems, we are here to highlight possible issues that we may find. We help inform both buyers and sellers of the condition of an RV prior to making such a large sale or purchase. Not everyone is trying to be deceitful and not everyone may know for sure what is going on with their RV. I have dealers tell me all the time " They just completed the PDI and you shouldn't find anything wrong with this unit". I then proceed to find leaking plumbing and issues with sealant on the roof. I found 120 volt circuits not functioning because of a loose or broken connection in the electrical panel. All of this type of stuff was found on a brand new travel trailer. I have also had a seller tell me that they've been in the RV Service business for 20 years, they had owned a RV Service Center for a decade and then I should find nothing wrong with the 5th wheel that they were trying to sell. That particular unit was missing all of its plumbing vent caps on the roof and the sealant along the perimeter of the roof was not maintained at all. There was also an active leak in the rear corner of the roof with a subsequent soft spot where there was obvious wood rot in the roof decking material. In the corresponding area on the interior of the 5th wheel there were soft spots in the ceiling as well as the rear wall. There are RV owners that don't really know about basic maintenance and upkeep that is required to maintain the integrity of the RV or travel trailer. These are some of the things that we look for. Making sure that sealant on the roof and around the windows is intact and inspecting the roof material.

Ultimately, whether you're a buyer or seller or just an RV owner in general the RV inspection provides you with peace of mind. There are well over 300 points of inspection in the reports provided by NRVIA trained RV inspectors. The RV inspection is well worth the investment for that Peace of Mind.
