The Hidden Value of a Pre-Purchase RV Inspection
Buying an RV is an exciting step toward your next big adventure, but it is crucial to know exactly what you are investing in before you hand over the cash. At Wheel Estate RV, we know that even the most beautiful rigs can hide costly secrets.
Recently, we performed a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection on a Class A gas motorhome in Munds Park, AZ. On the surface, the RV seemed promising, but our thorough evaluation ultimately uncovered 32 flagged items.
While some issues were minor—like a slideout awning topper lacking spring tension—others were hidden headaches just waiting to ruin a camping trip:
Electrical
Failures: The power converter was completely non-functional, receiving 120-volt power but outputting zero power to charge the batteries. Additionally, the electrical transfer switch was only pushing power through one leg, leaving half of the circuit breaker panel dead when plugged into shore power.
Plumbing Surprises: We found severely clogged bathroom and kitchen faucets resulting in extremely low water pressure. Worse, the shower was leaking water from the door frame directly out onto the bedroom floor.
Pests: Under the hood, a hornet's nest was found hiding right inside the engine air filter box!
Life Safety Concerns: The smoke and safety detectors were 5 to 7 years old, replacement would ensure the safety of the new owners.
Without a professional inspection, a buyer would have driven away completely unaware of these impending repairs.
